As you can already tell, this week’s blog will be about bacon. As many foodies and food lovers already know, bacon “insert item” is popular right now. With that in mind, we take a quick look at how this trend has transcended onto the fairground scene.

Bacon is not only delicious, right now the swine delight is trendy as well, and many concessionaires are capitalizing on it. Now as you walk from concessionaire to concessionaire you will see many different, and often times disturbing bacon creations. You will see simple items such as baked potatoes with bacon on them, hamburgers topped with bacon and bacon wrapped hot dogs.

The Fundamentals of Funnel Cake

With all the new and creative indulgences that pop up in fairs, the crunchy, fried, powdered funnel cakes stands out.

Funnel cakes have their origin in the Arabic world. They later spread through Europe, and were known as “mistembec” or “cryspes”. Later, German immigrants brought them to the United States under the name of “drechter kuche”. Around 1879 the version of the treat we know and love was created.
